The 24-Hour Rule

Maintaining sanity on social media

Most of us have heard of the “5-second rule” when it comes to dropped food. Urban Dictionary provides us with a clear definition:

An unwritten law dictating that if a food or other consumable item is dropped onto the floor, it may be picked up and eaten within five seconds. The reasoning behind this is that dirt and germs take six seconds to transfer from one surface to another.

It’s a fine rule and I use it all the time if I'm being honest.

I have also developed another time specific rule for myself related to my social media use and I thought I would share it with you today. Perhaps, you’ll find it useful as well, especially during the politically polarized days of today.

It’s called the “24-hour rule” and it has nothing to do with food or anything else being ingested. Let me back up a moment and explain the genesis of this rule.

I have a loose tongue and no filter
